The creation process

working_09.jpgOut of our first approach towards the miniature art topic we created a couple of keywords we came up with during brainstorming. For example
real objects, the integration of the installation/item/product into the city surrounding, information sharing, communication, urban interface, physical computing, importance of material, fun and curiosity, touch free interaction, multipurpose, scalability. It took us some iterations until we agreed on how and where to change our approach. We defined a set of guidelines that should be part of the next level of our work.

  • physical objects to visualize output
  • seamless surface: not mirrorlike BUT like a mirror
  • surprise, wow, fun,
  • common object with unexpected behaviour: the mirror
  • miniature art guidelines: Separation, Scaling, Storytelling
  • self define miniature art guideline: TheUnexpected

We went back to thinking about mirrors itself again and finally came up with a set of specifications that suited us best:

  • Surprise effect through unexpected behaviour of a mirror in public space
  • communication with a unusual interface without touch
  • Material, Look and Feel. Display that actually is a display but looks and feels like a mirror
  • Grabbing people’s attention through change of background while keeping the original mirrored image of the person only -> Separation of foreground and background.
  • Scaling of elements within the mirror shows data and creates layers on a horizontally organized view.
